Elli Solomonidou‑Balanou, the Athens‑born artist whose distinctive signature and sketches became emblems of Greek urban culture, has died.
Born in 1931, she grew up in Palaio Psychiko and on Rhodes, immersed in books, music and art after her father’s early death.
Trained at the Athens School of Fine Arts, the Athens Technological Institute and in Italy, she developed a unique style, sketching performers and scenes in theaters, festivals and concert halls from the 1960s to the 2010s.
Her work appeared for decades in Kathimerini.
