Washington, (EFE).- The United States launched a series of strikes against Iran on Tuesday in retaliation for the downing of an American helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).
President Donald Trump had warned earlier on Tuesday that his country would respond to the Iranian attack that took place on Monday.
«U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces began launching self-defense strikes against Iran at 5 p.m. ET today at the Commander in Chief’s direction, in response to yesterday’s downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter,» the command stated.
CENTCOM described the mission as a «proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression» but did not disclose specific targets.
The helicopter, allegedly downed by Iranian forces, crashed near the coast of Oman. Both soldiers on board were successfully rescued by US forces.
