Heartfelt Appreciations

Less than a week after rescuers brought a stranded Chinese tourist safely down from Table Mountain on the night of her birthday, many of those involved in the operation gathered again, this time not on the mountain but with the Chinese Consulate in Cape Town.

The Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China hosted an appreciation event in Newlands to recognise the rescue teams and partner organisations involved in the operation, which saw a 22-year-old tourist rescued from the India Venster route after becoming disoriented in fading light and stranded on the Table Mountain.

Deputy Consul General Wang Xiao welcomes rescuers and partner agencies to the Chinese Consulate in Cape Town, recognising the teamwork and dedication behind a successful Table Mountain rescue.

The tourist, who has since returned to China, sent a video message thanking those who assisted her after she became stranded near the Fountain Ledge scramble section of the route.
