District Collector M. Prathap visited on Tuesday Mathur aqueduct, an elevated engineering marvel built by late Chief Minister K. Kamaraj in 1966 for taking water from a hill to another for irrigation.Since development works are being implemented in Mathur aqueduct area at the cost of ₹3.40 crore, the Collector inspected the schemes and instructed the Department of Town Panchayat to prepare a comprehensive proposal for creating all visitors-friendly infrastructure in this tourist spot.When the tourists told the Collector that there was no toilet in the children’s park near the aqueduct, Mr. Prathap instructed the officials to include it in the proposal.“Since the scenic Mathur aqueduct attracts tourists from all over the country everyday, this area will soon have all tourist-friendly facilities,” the Collector assured the visitors.When he saw the eateries and other shops, all encroachments, along the path leading to the aqueduct, the Collector instructed the Block Development Officer to shift all these shops to nearby safer place without affecting their livelihood after giving due permission.The Collector also inspected the ongoing development projects in Aruvikkarai, Kulasekaram and a few more areas.
