Ports Department began pulling down the old entrance gate to Malpe fishing port to build a new one with 24m width in line with the width of new four-lane NH 169A, at Malpe in Udupi district on Tuesday.

Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna on Tuesday, asked the Ports Department and the National Highways Division of the Public Works Department to immediately commence Malpe Port entrance gate work and the balance work of four-laning Malpe-Tirthahalli NH 169A.Inspecting the port entrance and the connecting highway along with officials, Mr. Suvarna noted that the works could be taken up in view of the two-months fishing holiday till July-end. He noted that the gate width has been redesigned to 24 meters to complement the four-lane highway work.
