Doctors at the Pediatric Emergency Department of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Tiruchi saved the life of a critically ill five-year-old boy suffering from tetanus.The boy was admitted to MGMGH on May 3 with continuous muscle contractions and breathlessness caused by tetanus. The disease is a serious, potentially fatal bacterial infection caused by Clostridium tetani. After a dedicated treatment programme at the hospital, the patient showed complete recovery and was discharged on Tuesday, according to an official press release.Doctors advised parents to ensure that their children received their primary anti-tetanus vaccines at the right stages until the age of five, and later if required, to prevent the spread of the disease.
