Despite acknowledging the challenges, Akume maintained that there were signs that the government's reform agenda was yielding positive outcomes.
The President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government has admitted that inflation and insecurity remain major challenges confronting millions of Nigerians despite a series of economic and fiscal reforms introduced by the administration since 2023.
The acknowledgement came on Tuesday during a press conference held in Abuja as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration and Nigeria's 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.
Speaking at the briefing, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, admitted that Nigerians were still grappling with the impact of rising living costs and persistent security threats but insisted that the government's policies were beginning to produce measurable results.
The event was attended by members of the Federal Executive Council and served as what Akume described as an accountability exercise by the administration as it reaches the midpoint of its first term in office.
