Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis, reiterated Tuesday that elections will be held at the end of New Democracy’s current term in 2027, rejecting speculation about early polls in autumn.

Marinakis said it is a “consistent stance” and a “strategic choice” by the government in order to complete commitments such as raising wages and implementing major projects.

The comment comes a day after Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reshuffled his cabinet, appointing four new deputy ministers.

Asked about whether the choice of deputies pointed to a further right-wing shift for the Conservatives, Marinakis argued that the criteria for selecting individuals were their effectiveness and their stance at “crucial moments.”

The government spokesperson also rejected news reports that linked the resignation of Efthymios Bakoyannis, the Environment Ministry’s secretary-general for spatial planning and the urban environment, with an alleged corruption ring involving municipal planning services, saying there is no evidence linking his name to corruption cases.
