While stable careers and secure paychecks remain the preferred path for many, some people choose to step away from convention and pursue ideas they truly believe in. Instead of spending their lives confined to predictable routines, they embrace uncertainty, take calculated risks, and work tirelessly to turn their passions into successful ventures. Such journeys are rarely easy, often involving initial hurdles, but success comes to those who refuse to give up. The story of Ganesh Sathe from Thane, Mumbai, is one such powerful example of following one’s dreams, overcoming challenges and finally reaping the rewards of persistence.Faith and family support Ganesh Sathe was preparing for his CA examination when he suddenly realised that it was never his dream to work in a 9-5 job. So, he took a leap of faith, borrowed Rs 50,000 from his family and put his blood and sweat into building a food business, reported The Better India. Ganesh’s motto? To honour his mother by popularising her delicious benne dosa recipe to everyone in Thane. But his journey was far from easy. With the borrowed money, Ganesh Sathe turned an old cart into a street-side stall with the help of his sister Sapna. ‘My mom makes the yummiest dosas. I decided to sell exactly that: benne dosas with authentic white butter sourced from Pune. My tagline was simple: high-quality dosa,’ shared Ganesh in a past interaction with Startuppedia. His now-famous shop, The Benne, was founded in 2023 and officially launched in October 2025. A recipe of resilience and beliefGanesh Sathe’s benne dosa dream, however, received a blow because of the multiple flashy food trucks in the area, serving trendy dishes like momos, pizza rolls and sweet delicacies. There were barely any customers and sales fell to Rs 200 per day, forcing Ganesh and Sapna to consider shutting down the stall. But the siblings did not give up. The duo turned to social media and began documenting their journey online while also focusing on improving the quality of their dosas and the overall customer experience.Every morning, Ganesh Sathe’s mother and sister prepared fresh batter, while Ganesh manned the stall, serving customers and sharing videos of their food business on digital platforms. As their videos gained traction, footfall increased, word-of-mouth recommendations spread, and the once-struggling stall began attracting a loyal customer base. Now, the shop welcomes nearly 400 customers every day, with its dosas often selling out quickly. At present, the business generates close to Rs 40,000 in daily revenue and earns around Rs 12 lakh in monthly profit.
