A chilling case of a triple shooting emerged in Los Angeles, where a father allegedly fatally shot his twin sons and shot at his wife and missed before turning the gun on himself during a family gathering on Sunday night (June 7, 2026). The incident occurred inside an apartment in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Canoga Park.Twin boys, identified as 10-year-old Joseph and Greysen Chavez, were fatally shot on Sunday, June 7, by a man police say is believed to be their father, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement, according to multiple reports. Meanwhile, the identity of the 37-year-old father was not revealed at the time of filing of this report.According to KTLA, the suspected murder-suicide occurred at a grandmother’s birthday party at an apartment on the 8000 block of Owensmouth Avenue near Strathern Street at around 7:15 p.m. After receiving a report of a shooting, officers from the police department were sent to the apartment. Upon entering the residence, they found the man and two children deceased, all with apparent gunshot wounds.Investigators recovered a handgun from the scene, and the case is now being handled by the LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division's Special Section, ABC7 reported. Authorities are treating the incident as a murder-suicide.Following the incident, family members, friends, and local residents gathered outside the apartment complex and remained there throughout the night. Speaking to KTLA, a neighbor who lives nearby described the incident as "tragic." “The kids never had a chance to have a life, and I don't know why the father, if he did have issues, couldn't have gotten help," the resident told the outlet. "Why? To take his children's lives and his own life. It's just, there are no words right now.” The boys' mother was seen mourning alongside family members outside the apartment complex on Sunday night.Another neighbor told the news outlet that she spoke with the family in passing earlier that day. “They were super nice. The sweetest boys ever,” the neighbor said. “I really didn’t believe it until I saw them take out the bodies.” The motive for the shooting remained under investigation at the time of filing of this report.Relatives returned to the apartment complex on Monday morning (June 8, 2026) but chose not to comment to reporters.
