Ousting Sir Keir Starmer as Prime Minister will reverse the ban on new oil and gas drilling in the North Sea, pro-drilling Labour MPs believe.
A change in No 10 will break the power which the Energy Secretary Ed Miliband wields over North Sea policy and allow new exploration licences to be granted, according to a number of MPs.
Since coming to power in 2024, Labour has refused to issue new oil and gas exploration licences to help meet its Net Zero targets – a commitment which would be formalised and put on a permanent basis by legislation unveiled in last month’s King’s Speech.
