Emmerdale viewers were left stunned as they instantly recognised Charity Dingle's police officer DS Reid on Monday's episode15:18, 08 Jun 2026Updated 15:20, 08 Jun 2026Emmerdale fans were quick to recognise the police officer who supported Charity Dingle in Monday's episode.‌Just recently, Dr Todd discovered the shocking truth surrounding baby Leyla's biological parentage. Charity had acted as a surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah Sugden and Sarah's husband Jacob Gallagher, welcoming the precious baby Leyla into the world.‌However, what Charity had kept hidden from Sarah and Jacob is that Leyla is not biologically theirs — the baby's real parents are Charity and Ross Barton, following a brief affair between the two.‌Charity had desperately fought to keep the secret buried, but it wasn't long before the villainous Dr Todd — who has spent months making trainee doctor Jacob's life a misery at the hospital — unearthed the truth and has been holding it over Charity ever since. The conniving doctor has demanded an eye-watering £100,000 from the Woolpack co-owner, leaving Charity utterly desperate. Things then took a deeply sinister turn when Dr Todd sexually assaulted Charity during Sunday's episode, reports the Daily Star.‌Monday's instalment laid bare the devastating aftermath as Charity struggled to process what she had endured. After attempting to join her family at the pub for granddaughter Sarah's 21st birthday party, a visibly shaken Charity fled the gathering.Later, Charity found the strength to visit the police station and report Dr Todd to the authorities, where she spoke to a female officer known as DS Reid. Sharp-eyed soap fans were left doing a double take during the scenes, instantly recognising the familiar face behind the character.DS Reid is portrayed by actress Angela Lonsdale. Angela, 58, played police officer Emma on Coronation Street from 2000 to 2003, where she was paired with the beloved character Curly Watts.‌Since departing Coronation Street, Angela has kept busy on screen, appearing in Holby City, Doctors, This Is England '90, Our Girl, The Syndicate, and Hollyoaks, amongst other roles.Viewers wasted no time taking to social media to flag the crossover, particularly given that Angela was once again stepping into the shoes of a police officer.‌One viewer quipped: "Good to see Emma Watts is still on the force. #Emmerdale #Corriedale" while another fan wrote: "Wow, Emma Watts got promoted! One for the #Corrie long time watchers #Emmerdale."Elsewhere, another viewer commented: "The police officer talking to charity is curly watts wife Emma also play police women in corrie" to which a fellow fan responded: "I did recognise her face. I dont watch Corrie, but think she has been in lots."In the weeks ahead, Charity faces a harrowing struggle to come to terms with the attack, caught between opening up to her loved ones or keeping her ordeal buried deep within.Article continues belowEmmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVXIf you've been the victim of sexual assault, you can access help and resources via www.rapecrisis.org.uk or calling the national telephone helpline on 0808 802 9999.
