The Consumer Protection Council, Tamil Nadu, has appealed to the Revenue Minister to appoint a high-power commission to rectify issues in the Updating of Registry (UDR).A resolution adopted at its annual general body meeting held here recently said a large number of complaints were pending with the Revenue Department, mostly pertaining to delays in correction of mistakes such as wrong survey numbers and location, misspelt names and discrepancies in names appearing in pattas, deeds, encumbrance certificates, and UDR of the same land.“We urge the Revenue Minister to appoint a High-Power Rectification Commission and remove all difficulties within 12 months, thus freeing the courts from these cases. The commission may be given quasi-judicial status with adequate infrastructure and staff. This would be the reform of the decade. A fool-proof digitized record will prevent future errors. With GPS, remote sensing, and remote measurement technologies, this should be possible,” the resolution adopted at the meeting said. The council urged the government to pass the Clinical Establishment Act, enabling provision of information on services and charges in all hospitals, and Delivery of Services Act to sets norms, standard and time limit for services. It appealed to the government to fill the vacancies in the State and District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions. The Chief Minister should meet representatives of consumers organisations too just as he meets the representatives of trade and industry, he said.Earlier, R. Balaji, District Revenue Officer, who addressed the meeting, urged the public to be aware of the documents which they need to get while purchasing property and ensure that they provided correct details to the authorities.S. Pushpavanam, secretary of the council, presented the annual report at the meeting chaired by C.T. Selvakumar, president of the council. Published - June 08, 2026 06:09 pm IST
