The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of four suspected members of a gun-running syndicate allegedly linked to the controversial Effurun incident that resulted in the extra-judicial killing of a 28-year-old suspect, Mene Ogidi, in April.
The command disclosed the arrests on Monday, saying the suspects were apprehended following weeks of intelligence-led investigations into the recovery of a Beretta pistol at a transport park in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Delta State Police Command and signed by Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi, the suspects identified as Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill and Amadi Felix Chibuike were arrested in separate operations conducted in Bayelsa and Imo states.
The police said the arrests were connected to investigations into a Beretta pistol recovered on May 1, 2026, during an operation that later generated public outrage after a police officer allegedly shot and killed Mene Ogidi, who had been arrested in connection with the firearm.
