Teachers return after CCTV boycott ends disruption at Durban school.
Teachers at uMkhumbane Secondary School in Durban have returned to classrooms following a boycott over the installation of CCTV cameras, which had allegedly disrupted teaching and learning and escalated tensions within the school community.
The standoff, which saw educators demanding the suspension of the principal amid allegations of inadequate consultation, drew in parents and governing structures as efforts intensified to restore stability and normal schooling.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education said the situation has now stabilised following intervention and engagement with all stakeholders, including school management, labour representatives and the School Governing Body (SGB).
Speaking during the visit, Head of Department, Nkosinathi Ngcobo stressed the importance of protecting teaching spaces from prolonged conflict.
