A new survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) suggests that a majority of Ukrainians would support a ceasefire along the current front line under specific security conditions involving European military involvement near the battlefield.
According to the poll, 61% of respondents supported a ceasefire scenario in which European troops would be deployed close to the front line and would be expected to help repel any renewed Russian offensive. At the same time, 33% said they were firmly opposed to such an arrangement.
The survey, conducted between 7 May and 3 June 2026, tested four different ceasefire models. KIIS explained that each respondent was randomly assigned only one scenario in a split-sample design.
Researchers noted, “We prepared 4 ceasefire scenarios, and only 1 randomly selected scenario was read to the respondent. Each scenario assumed a ceasefire exactly on the current front line and that Russia actually retains control over the occupied territories, however, without official recognition… At the same time, the security component differed.”
The first scenario offered no security guarantees or additional military and financial support. In that case, 61% of respondents rejected the idea of a ceasefire, while 32% said they would accept it.
