Replacement buses are running on part of the Bratislava–Vienna route after Slovakia's regulator halted Austrian trains.
Passengers travelling between Bratislava and Vienna have faced disruption since the end of last week after Austrian rail operators ÖBB and Raaberbahn were forced to replace some train services with buses on part of the route.
The changes affect services running from Bratislava-Petržalka, with travellers now required to transfer to replacement buses before continuing their journey by rail in Austria. Commuters and tourists can expect longer journey times until the issue is resolved.
The disruption follows a decision by Slovakia's transport regulator to temporarily ban Austrian-operated Siemens Desiro ML trains from entering the country, according to Denník N. The trains, which are widely used across Austria and have served Petržalka for several years, were found by Slovak authorities to be missing certain documentation.
According to Denník N, inspectors raised concerns over registration records, market authorisation documents and technical certification paperwork during a routine inspection earlier this year. No safety defects were identified.
