The approach road to Chromepet railway station from Radha Nagar Station Road has steadily narrowed over the years owing to encroachments by shops, causing severe hardship to rail and bus commuters, pedestrians and office-goers, particularly during peak hours.Hundreds of commuters using Station Road on the eastern side of the railway station are forced to navigate multiple bottlenecks every day. Residents and activists point to shop encroachments on the southern side of the road as the primary cause of the congestion, which is further aggravated by illegal parking, two-way traffic movement and a narrow stretch near the road’s end close to the railway foot overbridge. While the eastern portion of the road remains relatively wide, the carriageway progressively narrows towards the station, resulting in crowding and delays.

Pedestrians share limited road space with commercial activity on Station Road.
