One of the women told Haaretz that officers entered the house, detained those inside and questioned them."They came with large forces and started beating us," she said. "They sat us on the floor, covered our eyes and questioned us. They only allowed me to leave because I was with a child."Police and the Shin Bet did not immediately comment on the allegations. The search and questioning came hours after authorities identified the attacker as Amar Mandar Yaseen, a 35-year-old Israeli citizen from Taibeh, who was killed after carrying out a series of shootings near Kochav Yair that left one man dead and five others wounded.Ex-U.S. envoy to Israel: Settler violence 'disgusting,' Netanyahu gov't must 'put its foot down'Former U.S. Ambassador Tom Nides said on Sunday that settler violence in the West Bank is "disgusting" and that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government needs to "put its foot down" urgently to crack down on it.In an interview with Army Radio, the former envoy in Joe Biden's administration to Israel, who served from 2021 to July 2023, said that amid the weekend's settler violence in the West Bank and its rising frequency, the Israeli government "needs to make it a priority," calling the phenomenon "disgusting.""When I was ambassador, we sanctioned the settlers, banning them from coming to the U.S.," he said, adding that in the West Bank, "there are two systems of justice. These settlers need to be prosecuted, arrested and jailed if found guilty."He also said that the situation in the West Bank "makes Israel look terrible on the world stage, ruins the lives of many innocent Palestinians," and that the Netanyahu government "needs to put its foot down."Asked whether he would call it Jewish violence, Nides said he preferred not to give it labels, "but it needs to end. The prime minister and [Finance Minister Bezalel] Smotrich and the group of people in charge need to figure it out tomorrow and get it done. Any day it continues, it terrifies Palestinians and makes Israel look terrible."Asked about recent reports that Israel had been spying on U.S. officials involved in the Iran talks and the broader relationship between the two countries, Nides said: "This is a critical time for the U.S.-Israel relationship. It was reported that Trump had a colorful conversation with the prime minister," referring to a recent call in which U.S. President Donald Trump called Netanyahu "fucking crazy" over Lebanon.Nides added: "I recall colorful conversations with Biden and Netanyahu. He tends to get the best out of you. This is not abnormal."Two days on, IDF yet to probe soldier who fatally shot Palestinian infantThe Israeli military has yet to open an investigation into the fatal shooting of a seven-month-old Palestinian infant and the wounding of his parents by IDF troops near Hebron on Friday, the army's legal body confirmed. At the same time, military officials say they have been unable to identify the soldiers and settlers filmed beating residents in a separate incident that took place at a West Bank village on Saturday.Fahed Abu Haykal holds the body of his son, 7-month-old Sam Fahed Abu Haykal, who was killed by IDF fire on Friday, during the funeral on Saturday.
