Andhra Pradesh’s IT & HRD Minister Nara Lokesh on Sunday met representatives of Giredmet Institute, a leading Russian rare earth minerals organisation, in Moscow.On the occasion, Mr. Lokesh stated that partnerships with Giredmet Institute would open valuable opportunities for Andhra Pradesh, and requested it to explore the possibility of establishing a deep processing and Rare Earth Element refining hub in Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts.Also, he sought a partnership with the Government of A.P. for setting up a neodymium magnet production centre in Nellore district and for implementing proprietary extraction technologies to recover strategic rare metals from industrial waste and mining tailings.​Founded in 1931 and headquartered in Moscow, Giredmet is a key R&D facility within the Rosatom scientific and technological system. It has expertise in the fields of rare earth elements, critical metals, semiconductor materials, and high-purity chemicals.Earlier, Mr. Lokesh visited Russia’s largest atomic energy museum in Moscow, which is unique for its exhibits that range from the early stages of the Soviet atomic power plants to the modern nuclear energy and futuristic projects.Senior administrators of the museum told the Minister that more than 3.50 million visitors from over 80 countries visited this museum.Jointly developed by the Moscow government and the Rosatom State Corporation, this museum comprehensively showcases not only the history of nuclear energy but also the achievements in the peaceful use of nuclear power.
