Widely known as "Ta Mzo," Ngcawuzele reportedly passed away at his home following an illness on Sunday.
The community of Gugulethu and South Africa at large are mourning the passing of Mzoli Ngcawuzele, the visionary founder and entrepreneur behind the world-renowned restaurant, Mzoli's Place.
Widely known as "Ta Mzo," Ngcawuzele reportedly passed away at his home following an illness. He is celebrated as the man who put Gugulethu on the global map with his iconic shisanyama, which became a vibrant hub for township tourism and culture, drawing visitors from around the world.
Beyond his business success, Mzoli was deeply committed to community development. His restaurant provided employment for dozens of locals and created a platform for other small business owners to thrive alongside his enterprise.
Despite suffering a stroke two years ago in 2024, his spirit and dedication remained unshaken. At the time, he shared his resilience with the Cape Times, stating that his ill health would not hold him back. "Even after I suffered a stroke, I never sat down. That’s why I am saying my strength has kept it going," he asserted, reflecting the tenacity that defined his life's work.
