Government has publicly corrected remarks made during a recent television interview in which commentator Dr Charles Sinkala allegedly claimed that Section 89 of South Africa's Constitution was responsible for the decline of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

The government has formally rebuked analyst Dr Charles Sinkala for what it describes as an inaccurate and misleading claim made during a televised interview on the SABC, in which he allegedly attributed the decline of State-Owned Enterprises to Section 89 of the Constitution.

The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) described the claim as inaccurate and warned against the spread of misinformation on constitutional matters.

According to government, Section 89 of the Constitution deals exclusively with the removal of a President by the National Assembly under specific circumstances and has no connection to the governance, administration or operational management of State-Owned Enterprises.

"Section 89 of the Constitution specifically provides for the removal of the President by the National Assembly under defined circumstances and it does not relate to the governance, administration, or operational management of State-Owned Enterprises," government said.
