A fresh case of homicide has emerged in North Philadelphia where a pizza delivery driver was shot and killed on Friday (June 5, 20206) while dropping off an order at an apartment. According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, the fatal shooting took place at the Raymond Rosen Homes on the 2300 block of Edgley Street around 12:30 a.m. when the 28-year-old delivery driver was making a delivery at the housing complex, according to NBC 10 Philadelphia, 6ABC Action News, CBS News and Fox 29 Philadelphia.Officers responding to a report of shots fired in the area found the man "lying on the ground unresponsive, bleeding heavily with a gunshot wound to his head," Small said. The driver was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 1 a.m., CBS News reported.Investigators learned that someone had called in a pizza delivery order to a vacant unit in the housing complex. "From looking at the pizza boxes, we were able to identify the pizza shop," Small said, according to 6ABC Action News. The news outlet also reported that the victim worked for Pete's Pizza.According to the outlet, investigators found three pizza boxes and a bag inside the vacant apartment. They were apparently untouched, leading them to believe the driver had successfully completed the delivery before being shot outside the complex. Police recovered three spent shell casings at the scene, located just inches from where the victim was found. "Which is an indication that the shooter or shooters were standing very, very close to the victim," Small said. The victim's delivery vehicle was also located near the scene, with a pizza warmer still inside, 6ABC Action News reported. According to Police, surveillance cameras, operated by the Philadelphia Housing Authority, captured portions of the incident. While officials said the shooting was not caught on camera, the pizza delivery driver can be seen in footage walking with the boxes while being followed by two people wearing dark clothing. One of them was carrying a dark backpack. No arrests had been made at the time of filing this report. Small, however, said investigators have a crucial lead. "We do have the phone number that made that pizza delivery," he said.ALSO READ: Toledo Shooting Update: Here’s what we know about Ohio festival gunfire suspects and 12 victims?
