The Dindigul district police have registered a case against five persons, including the correspondent of a private college, functioning in Batlagundu on charges of making sexual remarks and threatening the girl students here on Saturday.Police said that about 30 girl students have also petitioned District Collector Durga Moorthy praying that they be transferred immediately to some other educational institution as they felt insecure in the campus. The petitioner students had charged that they were being intimidated by some staff in the college for the last six months. Repeated pleas to the management to take action against the erring staff did not bring in any relief as the authorities remained silent spectators. For instance, the students claimed that when they pointed to sub-standard food being served in the mess, the staff abused them by calling them by their caste names. Some other staff members used filthy language and sent sexual remarks on mobile phones. The numbers were shared by the officials under the guise of informing the menu to the hostelers. However, the staff sent messages which were vulgar and sometimes threatening, they added. The police, after preliminary inquiry, registered a case under six different sections against the staff, including the correspondent (incharge), identified as Selvakumar. The institution has over 500 students both studying engineering and arts and science courses. Further investigation was on. Published - June 06, 2026 09:14 pm IST
