The Malkajgiri police arrested four more accused of the notorious gang involved in a major house dacoity at a gated community in Kowkoor and recovered a substantial quantity of stolen gold, silver and other valuables. The arrested were identified as Meena, Rajesh, Kiran, from Nepal, and Daniel Charoh alias Chang, a native of Darjeeling. The case was registered at Jawaharnagar police station following a complaint by Murali Mohan Narsipuram, 68, residing at Mohan’s Golf Enclave in Kowkoor. The dacoity took place on the night of May 11.Investigators found that two of the accused, Meena and Rajesh, had conspired to commit thefts for quick money. They recruited several associates and used one of the accused, Sabeena alias Sunitha, as a housemaid in the victim’s residence to gather information about the family’s routine.Police said that on the night of the offence, five gang members entered the house while others remained outside the gated community to assist in their escape. The accused allegedly tied the victims’ hands and legs, threatened them with crowbars and broke open almirahs before fleeing with gold ornaments weighing around 60 tolas, about 15 kilograms of silver articles, $3,000 in cash, mobile phones and other valuables.Following the registration of the case, six special teams comprising personnel from the Law and Order, Special Operations Team (SOT) and Central Crime Station (CCS) wings were formed to investigate the crime. The investigation involved analysis of CCTV footage from around 255 cameras, scientific examination of the crime scene and extensive searches across multiple States. Police initially arrested four accused, identified as Sunitha alias Sabina, 28, Biswal alias Viswal, 30, Kamal Bahadur Chalaune, 34, and Jankar Bahadur Chalaune alias Shankar, 38, all natives of Nepal, within five days of the offence, and later tracked down and apprehended the remaining absconding suspects after sustained efforts spanning nearly three weeks.Investigators also found that two of the accused had previously been involved in a house-breaking case registered at Moinabad police station in 2023. Fingerprint evidence collected from the crime scene allegedly matched one of the accused, providing crucial corroborative evidence.During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in the crime, leading to the recovery of the stolen gold ornaments, silver articles and other valuables.Meanwhile, Malkajgiri police said they have intensified verification of domestic workers under the “Mee Suraksha” initiative. As part of the programme, police personnel are conducting door-to-door verification of domestic servants, drivers, caretakers and watchmen. Officials said details of 39,270 domestic workers have been collected so far, including of 1,276 Nepali nationals. Published - June 06, 2026 08:49 pm IST
