Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management K.A. Sengottaiyan on Saturday (June 6) took a swipe at AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, saying he had served under leaders such as M.G. Ramachandran, J. Jayalalithaa and C. Joseph Vijay before remarking that “one person was not a leader”.Speaking at a graduation ceremony at a private college in Neelambur near Coimbatore, Mr. Sengottaiyan said students were the reason elected representatives occupied positions of responsibility and thanked the public for supporting the formation of the present government.He said the government was committed to providing clean governance and functioning in a transparent manner. Referring to the recent Assembly election, he said the people had brought about a political change in the State.Mr. Sengottaiyan said Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had issued guidelines on how the administration should function and that the government would continue to provide honest governance. He added that the Revenue Department played a vital role in addressing the needs of people at the grassroots level.Urging students to excel in their chosen fields, he said many educated youth working abroad failed to devote adequate attention to their parents and stressed the importance of humanitarian values.Minister for Backward Classes Welfare V. Sampathkumar, who also participated in the event, said the present government had enabled ordinary people to enter public life and hold positions of responsibility.
