The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), one of Tamil Nadu’s two dominant Dravidian parties, is again staring at a potential internal crisis. One of the party’s senior leaders and nine-time legislator K.A. Sengottaiyan, has stirred the pot issuing a 10-day deadline for the party high command to take steps towards reconciliation and readmission of expelled leaders.

At 77, Sengottaiyan is one of AIADMK’s most experienced figures, having worked closely with party founder M.G. Ramachandran and his successor J. Jayalalithaa. Over the years, he has held portfolios ranging from education and agriculture to transport and information technology in different cabinets headed by Jayalalithaa and current party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami. He is also the longest-serving MLA of the party, representing Gobichettipalayam.
