An adalat to directly hear beneficiaries regarding the write-off of bank loans of the victims of the Mundakkai–Chooralmala landslide disaster will be held at the Round conference hall of the Wayanad District Collectorate from June 8 to June 11.Officials said the adalat was being organised as part of the process to write off the loans of those officially recognised and notified by the government as disaster victims.Loans taken by beneficiaries included in the Phase I, Phase II-A and Phase II-B lists, as well as those of persons who died in the disaster, will be considered. In cases where beneficiaries are unable to attend in person, other family members attending the camp should bring their details.On Monday (June 8), beneficiaries listed from serial numbers 1 to 100 in the Phase I beneficiary list will be heard. Beneficiaries in the remaining categories will be heard on subsequent days. Disaster victims have been urged to bring all available documents related to bank loans outstanding as of July 30, 2024, including loan statements and passbooks.In the case of deceased persons, details of their loans should be provided by surviving close relatives. Those attending the adalat should bring available documents such as a copy of their Aadhaar card or any other identity document, a copy of the ration card, a self-attested copy of the loan account passbook, an authorisation letter from the borrower permitting participation in the adalat and legal heir documents in the case of deceased persons, said the Deputy Collector in charge of Disaster Management.
