Proposals for replacing the water and power supply lines in Elstone Estate in Wayanad district, where the survivors of the deadly July 30, 2024 landslides in Chooralmala-Mundakkai villages are to be resettled, have received the Kerala government’s approval.The Disaster Management department has issued separate orders for the two works which is estimated to cost ₹1.14 crore in total.The department has accorded sanction for releasing ₹78.63 lakh for replacing the existing power supply lines in Elstone Estate. The money will be sourced from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) meant for the survivors. The fund is being released on the basis of a recommendation submitted by the District Collector, Wayanad.The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will issue the technical approval for the work.Based on another request made by the District Collector, the Water Resources department has authorised the release of ₹36 lakh for the realignment of the water supply pipelines in Elstone Estate.The Kerala government had formally launched the rehabilitation process in March 2025, with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan laying the foundation stone for the project on Elstone Estate.Under the rehabilitation programme, 402 beneficiaries are being offered houses or financial compensation.
