Salem City Police Commissioner Anil Kumar Giri, on Saturday (June 6, 2026), said that stern action will be taken to eradicate drugs in the city.Speaking to the reporters on Saturday, Mr. Giri stated that, acting on a tip-off, the Annathanapatti police and Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTK) searched a house at Mettu Street in Dadagapatti on Friday (June 5, 2026) and found K. Megala (48) and A. Mohammed Vadhuth (33), a resident of Rasipuram in the Namakkal district, selling painkiller tablets and injections illegally.Investigations revealed that Mohammed procured the tablets and injections in bulk and sold them through Megala for higher prices. The duo were arrested and later remanded in prison. The police also seized 1,39,130 tablets and 6,400 injections from the house, Mr. Giri added.Stating that stern action will be taken to eradicate drugs, the Commissioner said that the police and ANTF are taking steps to curb smuggling of drugs from other States to Salem. Likewise, awareness will be created among the public on the ill-effects of using drugs. Pharmacies are also monitored to curb the selling of medicines without prescription. This year, around 250 kg of ganja were seized and 79 persons detained under the provisions of the Goondas Act.Mr. Giri added that through the Drug Free app, complaints are received on drug sales and the information about the complainants is kept secret.
