District Collector Rajakumari Ganiya urged the people to take responsibility for transforming Nandyal town into a clean, beautiful, and pleasant place. The Collector inspected the “Operation Clean Sweep” programme in the Saibaba Nagar area under Nandyal Municipality limits on Saturday (June 6, 2026). Speaking on the occasion, the Collector explained that the programme’s primary objectives are to identify and remove accumulated garbage piles across the town and to implement sanitation management more effectively. She urged people to view cleanliness not merely as a government responsibility but as a collective duty to be achieved through public participation. The Collector noted that special focus is being placed on bulk waste generators such as hospitals, hotels, commercial complexes, apartments, and gated communities. She directed these establishments to segregate wet and dry waste and manage it using scientific methods. She said wet waste can be converted into organic manure through composting at the local level, and measures are being taken to ensure that waste is handed over to the municipality’s bio-digester units in situations where local composting is not feasible.Noting that the use of single-use plastic causes severe environmental damage, the Collector called for a complete ban on its usage. She suggested that people use alternatives such as biodegradable bags, corn-based eco-friendly covers, and other substitutes. In Kurnool, Collector Dr. A Siri participated in the “Operation Clean Sweep” programme under the “Swachh Andhra - Swarnandhra” initiative, along with Municipal Commissioner Challa Obulesu. She inspected the scientific waste management centre at bulk waste generator site in Birla Compound and the solid waste processing units at the Gargeyapuram dump yard.An awareness programme was conducted for locals in Maddur Nagar regarding waste segregation at the source, in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Rules-2026. Residents were advised to separate waste from every household into four categories —wet, dry, sanitary, and special — and hand them over to the municipal staff. Published - June 06, 2026 07:07 pm IST
