At least three people have been arrested or charged in Kenya in the past week over alleged offensive social media posts, signalling enhanced policing of digital platforms for hate speech and incitement to violence.
On Thursday, Sahara Ahmed Barre, a youthful politician from the northern Kenya county of Garissa, was charged in a Nairobi court with offences related to a viral video in April in which she allegedly called for attacks on non-native communities in the area.
She denied the charges.
