The Pune civil court has refused to stay the hearing in the partition suit filed by Sugandha Hiremath seeking her share in Kalyani family wealth. Her younger brother Gaurishankar Kalyani and his daughter Sheetal Kalyani had filed an application under Section 10 of Civil Procedure Code seeking to stay the proceedings on the grounds that Hiremath’s suit was similar to other suits filed seeking Kalkyani family wealth partition. In two separate orders passed on June 3, Joint Civil Judge, JG Pawar refused to stay the proceedings on Hiremath’s petition. The court took note of four suits concerning Kalyani family wealth. This included Sheetal’s suit, one filed by Hiremath’s children Sameer and Pallavi, and two suits filed by Hiremath in 2012 and 2025.The court observed that in each of the four suits, parties were not same, prayers are not identical, cause of action are on different footings, properties in all four suits are not identical, among other things.“Therefore, all these suits are not identical on the point of capacity of parties, title under whom they are litigating with each other. As such, the decision of each suit would not operate res-judicata against other suits. Therefore, matter in issue in present suit is not directly and substantially in issue in previously pending 03 suits,” states the order.Sugandha Hiremath, sister of industrialists Baba Kalyani and Gaurishankar Kalyani had filed the suit seeking partition of family wealth in 2025. The suit alleges that her brothers control promoter shares of all Kalyani group companies. She has alleged that all these years, the two have been selling, transferring and alienating the shares. The suit claims all the wealth that exists with any member of Kalyani family was created from the nucleus. Her grandfather Annappa Narayan Kalyani was the one who created initial wealth which got passed down to future generations. The wealth left behind by ANK was passed down to his son, Dr Neelkanth Kalyani, who was doyen of industry in the country, and he created several flagship companies under the Kalyani group banner. After he passed his sons Baba Kalyani and Gaurishankar Kalyani have taken over most of the companies under the Kalyani group banner.Published on June 6, 2026
