Federico Chiesa is considering leaving Liverpool this summer in search of regular first-team minutes. The 28-year-old started just once in the Premier League for Arne Slot’s side last season and will now hold talks with new head coach Andoni Iraola before making a decision.A return to Italy would be the most likely option although he’s not ruling anything out at this stage, while Chiesa also hinted Liverpool team-mate Curtis Jones may follow him to Serie A.“I want to play and if I don’t find continuity in the Premier League I’ll need to find it elsewhere,” Chiesa told Gazzetta dello Sport.“This season just gone, I got next to no minutes. I’ll go to the U.S. for pre-season then I’ll talk to the club and Iraola and we’ll see.”A transfer in January was never an option due to a shortage in forward options with Alexander Isak injured and Mohamed Salah away at the Africa Cup of Nations, but Liverpool will consider offers this summer.Chiesa has endured a frustrating two seasons at Anfield (Oli SCARFF / AFP via Getty Images)“I’ve honestly not played a lot since the start of 2026,” Chiesa said.“I’ve got a great relationship with Liverpool. Back in January the club and Slot said I couldn’t leave. They needed me. It was about numbers. We were in crisis.“I understood the situation and stayed, keeping a smile on my face. We’re still talking about Liverpool. Last year they allowed me to win the Premier League.”Chiesa was asked directly about returning to Juventus, a club he says he would like to play for again, and Como, who play in the Champions League next season. He said he was “open to everything” and added: “The important thing for me is game-time. I am not presumptuous enough to say: I have to be a starter. I am ready to fight for my place anywhere.”Chiesa was then asked about the future of Liverpool team-mate Jones, who has been linked with a summer transfer to Serie A.“All he (Jones) asked me was what life is like in Italy,” he added. “I told him it’s great and the weather is better than in Liverpool which, other than that, is a special place. Jones, technically, is a really good player. Inter do well to think about signing him.”Chiesa added that he expects Alisson, a target for Juventus, to remain at Liverpool.“From what I hear, he’s staying in England. Then let’s see. We’re talking about one of the top five goalkeepers on the planet. He’s a fantastic leader. He’s won everything and makes the difference on the pitch and in the dressing room.”
