The Radev government has signaled a clear intention to deepen economic cooperation with China and encourage greater Chinese investment in Bulgaria, Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Alexander Pulev said during a China-Bulgaria roundtable on trade and investment held in Sofia.

Speaking at the event, organized by the Chinese Embassy and the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria, Pulev said there is “clear political will” to expand bilateral economic relations. He added that the government is preparing legislation on public-private partnerships aimed at making investment conditions more attractive, including for Chinese capital.

According to him, the initiative is part of a broader effort to simplify investment procedures and reduce administrative barriers. He also noted plans to establish a coordination unit within the Council of Ministers to streamline investor access and limit bureaucracy.

Pulev described the current approach as the opening of a “new page” in relations with China, emphasizing that Sofia is ready for increased engagement. He said a strategic partnership agreed in 2019, during Radev’s time as president, had already contributed to growing trade flows between the two countries.
