International Desk, June 6 (EFE).– Iran launched several missile attacks early Saturday morning against American defense bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, all of which the US military claimed to have successfully intercepted. «We attacked US bases in the region with missiles in response to the US attack on the islands of Sirik and Qeshm,» the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced in a statement. The strikes followed an earlier report from US Central Command (CENTCOM) stating that American forces had targeted Iranian coastal radar surveillance facilities in Goruk and on Qeshm Island. CENTCOM noted those strikes were carried out after Iran launched drones into the Strait of Hormuz. According to the IRGC, the drones were deployed to block four oil tankers attempting to transit the strait without authorization from Tehran. Following the Iranian missile launches, Bahrain’s Ministry of the Interior and Kuwait’s state news agency, KUNA, confirmed that air raid sirens were activated across both nations. While the IRGC claimed its missiles successfully damaged the headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, CENTCOM strictly denied the report, reiterating that all incoming projectiles were intercepted. “The US will be responsible for the consequences of a complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz to oil and gas exports if they continue their wrongful actions,” the IRGC warned. These latest clashes cap three weeks of escalating retaliatory strikes near the strategic maritime chokepoint, which handles a massive portion of the world’s oil trade. Despite the intensifying friction between Washington and Tehran, US officials continue to insist that the broader ceasefire established in April remains technically in effect. EFE int-mrs-sk
