A powerful rainstorm swept through the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) campus on Friday, causing extensive damage to student hostels and other infrastructure, with sections of roofs ripped off buildings and several trees uprooted across the institution.
SaharaReporters learnt that the storm, which struck the Nsukka campus in the afternoon, left parts of the university community counting losses as strong winds tore through residential and public areas, disrupting normal activities.
Among the worst-hit facilities were Awolowo Hostel and Isa Kaita Hostel, where sections of the roofs were blown off, exposing students' rooms and accommodation areas to rain and harsh weather conditions.
The storm also uprooted several trees, while large branches fell across some roads within the campus, temporarily obstructing vehicular and pedestrian movement.
