Ravichandran Ashwin: News
Be it the streets of Chennai or the glamor of IPL or the grind of Test cricket, they were all the same for Ravichandran Ashwin. Besides the obvious talent, it was his shrewd brain and hard work that made him one of the best off-spinners to play for India.
Ashwin made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu in 2006. As consistent as Ashwin was at the domestic level, it was his performances for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL that brought him to the limelight. His international debut came in an ODI against Sri Lanka in 2010. He made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2011.
Early on in his career, Ashwin depended extensively on his carrom ball and other variations. As he grew in confidence, he developed a mean off-spinner that he used as his stock delivery. Spare use of variations made him an even dangerous bowler. Ashwin has had unparalleled success in the dusty and turning tracks of the sub-continent but has had mixed success with the kookaburra and duke balls. In 2016, he won ICC’s Cricketer of the Year Award.
