The Samoa Nationals Powerlifting Championships delivered strong performances on Saturday at JP Fitness Gym, with athletes breaking national and Oceania records as selections were confirmed for this year's Oceania Powerlifting Championships in Suva, Fiji, in November.

The President of the Samoa Powerlifting Federation, Benitto Rudolfo Krieg, said the competition produced impressive performances, highlighting a record-breaking lift by 70-year-old Atoa Tavita Lipine in the Master 4 division. Lipine set new national and Oceania records during the event.

Several athletes are now confirmed for the Samoa team heading to the Oceania Powerlifting Championships.

Selected athletes include Aaron Ah Kuoi in the Junior +120kg category, John Lose Ioane in the Open -83kg division, Atoa Tavita Lipine in the Master 4 -120kg category, Oliva Siusega Kirisome in the Open +120kg category, and Leotina Sive Petelo in the Women’s Open +84kg category. Krieg himself will also compete in the Open -105kg division.

More athletes are yet to complete national testing and will compete for remaining spots in the coming months.
