Soccer fans will be allowed to bring one store-bought, unopened water bottle into World Cup matches — but hard-sided, reusable water bottles remain banned, FIFA said Friday amid stinging criticism from the mayors of Toronto and New York City.
In a social media post, Heimo Schirgi, the FIFA World Cup 2026 chief operating officer, said he wanted to “clarify” the governing body’s rules on fans bringing their own water to matches.
