The police have arrested one more person, a resident of Bengaluru, in connection with the theft of hard disks from the headquarters of Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) on Anna Salai in Chennai.Based on a complaint lodged on June 1 by employees of the TNPDCL headquarters, regarding the disappearance of hard disks from office computers, a case was registered at the Chintadripet police station under the Triplicane police district, and an investigation was launched.Five special teams were formed to probe the case. During the preliminary investigation, police found that the hard disks had been stolen from employees’ computers at the TNPDCL headquarters on May 18. Further investigation revealed that the theft was committed by Gopinath, a contract employee working for a private company engaged in annual maintenance contract services at the TNPDCL headquarters.Gopinath, 31, is a resident of Arakkonam taluk in Ranipet district. The special teams arrested Gopinath on Thursday. Based on his confession, the police recovered all the stolen hard disks from Murali Manohar, 32, the owner of a commercial establishment in Bengaluru South, Karnataka.During the investigation, the police also seized computer spare parts allegedly stolen by Gopinath while working as a contract employee at other companies. In total, 34 hard disks and 20 RAM modules were recovered, including the properties linked to the present case, the police said.Data retrieval onMurali Manohar was also arrested and produced before the court for further legal proceedings.The police said efforts were under way to retrieve the data stored on the recovered hard disks by following due legal procedures.
