The Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. (TNPDCL) detected 13 cases of power theft and eight cases of violations of electricity usage regulations during enforcement drives conducted by its Coimbatore Enforcement Division on June 6 and 12.The inspections were carried out by six enforcement squads operating across the Coimbatore, Coimbatore North, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem and Dharmapuri regions. The raids covered the Gobi, Dharmapuri, Coimbatore South, Udumalpet and Mettur Electricity Distribution Circles.Following the inspections, Tangedco imposed an additional levy of ₹17.27 lakh in the power theft cases to recover losses caused by unauthorised consumption of electricity. A further ₹9.44 lakh was levied in the eight violation cases.The utility said the consumers involved admitted to the offences and chose to compound the cases by paying a total of ₹85,000, following which no criminal proceedings were initiated and no police complaints were filed.Tangedco appealed to the public to report instances of electricity theft to the Executive Engineer (Enforcement), Coimbatore, by calling 94430 49495.
