Parts of the central United States will be hit with severe weather starting June 5, including storms capable of producing large hail, strong winds, tornadoes and flooding.The Central Plains and Middle Mississippi Valley will see scattered thunderstorms through June 6, the National Weather Service said. Forecasters said storms will eventually impact parts of Missouri and Illinois."The hazards associated with these thunderstorms include frequent lightning, severe wind gusts, hail, and the threat of tornadoes," the weather service said.Weather data from south of Omaha and Des Moines suggests storms could produce hail larger than 2 inches in diameter and wind gusts greater than 70 mph.Showers will drench parts of the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley through June 7, presenting more flood risk."The associated heavy rain will mainly cause localized flash flooding, with urban areas, roads, small streams, and low-lying areas most vulnerable," the weather service said.
