Prime Minister Rumen Radev said he had personally discussed the case of former Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB) chief Stoyan Mavrodiev with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic following Mavrodiev’s detention in Belgrade.
Speaking to journalists in Tivat, Radev said he had received assurances from the Serbian leader regarding Bulgaria’s request for extradition. “I have his assurances that the Serbian state will treat our extradition request in the most responsible manner,” the prime minister stated, expressing confidence that Serbian authorities would carefully consider Sofia’s request.
The comments came a day after it was announced that Mavrodiev had been detained in the Serbian capital for 18 days. Bulgarian authorities are seeking his return in connection with an investigation into alleged embezzlement on a particularly large scale.
