Speaking at the EU-Western Balkans summit in Tivat, Prime Minister Rumen Radev called for stronger diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine, arguing that all countries should contribute to achieving peace and support initiatives aimed at stopping the conflict.
Radev warned that the risks of further escalation are increasing and expressed concern about Europe's current approach to the war. According to him, European countries are attempting to secure a conventional military victory against Russia despite the realities of Moscow's nuclear capabilities.
“Do you know what our problem is? So far, Europe has been trying to achieve a conventional victory against the world's largest nuclear power,” Radev said. He added that Europe lacks the means to counter Russia's hypersonic weapons, a situation he believes significantly raises security risks.
“This increases the risk enormously. We are increasing the nuclear risk,” the prime minister stated.
Radev stressed that any effort directed toward a negotiated settlement should be welcomed, regardless of where it originates. In his view, the priority should be finding a path to peace rather than prolonging confrontation.
