Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviews ongoing industrial operations and infrastructure projects during his visit to Hazira, in Surat district, Gujarat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday claimed that growing public anger against the Congress government in Karnataka had forced the party to change its Chief Minister.“There is a lot of anger among people in Karnataka regarding the present Congress government in the state. That is the reason why Congress had to change the Chief Minister,” Modi said while addressing a gathering in Surat in Gujarat after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth ₹18000 crore.PM Modi’s remarks come after DK Shivakumar was sworn in a new CM of Karnataka replacing Siddaramaiah who has been ruling the state since May 2023 after the Congress came to power. Modi also claimed that the Congress was facing a backlash from voters in other states where it is in power. Referring to recent local body elections in Himachal Pradesh, as well as electoral setbacks in Haryana and Punjab, he said people were growing tired of the party’s governance.Industrial HubThe Prime Minister’s also showcased the transformation of Hazira and Surat into major centres of industry, infrastructure and clean energy. Pointing to Gujarat’s growth under successive BJP governments, Modi said the state had emerged as a key driver of India’s industrial and renewable energy ambitions. Before arriving in Surat, Modi visited Hazira, which he said had evolved far beyond being merely an industrial zone. Describing it as an ecosystem integrating energy, steel, defence manufacturing, ports and global trade, he said Hazira was emerging as India’s maritime industrial hub and would play a key role in the country’s green growth ambitions.The Prime Minister said Hazira would become known for green steel production in the coming years, with renewable energy powering manufacturing processes. He also highlighted plans to make Surat’s public transport system increasingly electric and the ongoing expansion of the Surat Metro network. Underscoring Gujarat’s contribution to India’s energy transition, Modi said the state accounts for nearly one-fifth of the country’s renewable energy capacity, contributing around 50 GW out of India’s total 250 GW renewable energy capacity.
