Selvy Pillay Selvy Pillay of Croftdene proudly shares her passion for preserving family traditions through cooking. Known affectionately as Selvz, she says food has always been a way of bringing loved ones together and keeping treasured memories alive.
For 64‑year‑old Selvy Pillay, known affectionately as Selvz, cooking has always been about more than preparing a meal. Growing up in a close‑knit family and now residing in Croftdene, she has spent a lifetime preserving traditions through the recipes and lessons passed down by the women who inspired her.
A passionate home cook, Selvy’s love for the kitchen began during her childhood, where she spent hours watching her mother and grandmother transform simple ingredients into memorable family meals. Those moments, filled with the aromas of spices, simmering pots and lively conversation, helped shape her belief that food is one of the most powerful ways to connect people.
“Cooking is not just about food,” she said. “It is about love, patience and connection.”
Like many families across Chatsworth and surrounding communities, the kitchen served as the heart of the Pillay home. It was where stories were shared, traditions passed down and generations gathered to celebrate life’s special moments.
