A localized ceasefire has been introduced in the area surrounding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), enabling repair work aimed at restoring damaged electricity infrastructure, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported via X.
According to the IAEA, this is the sixth temporary truce arranged around the facility. The agreement allows technical teams from Ukraine and Russia, operating under IAEA supervision, to proceed with repairs on the 750-kV Dniprovska transmission line after extensive demining operations in the surrounding zone.
The high-voltage line has been offline since March, leaving the plant dependent since March 24 on a single backup connection, the 330-kV Ferosplavna-1 line.
Repair preparations, however, have been complicated by the location of the damaged infrastructure. As the agency noted, “This time, preparations for the repairs have been complicated by the location of the power line damage: on top of high pylons across the line of control in the Dnipro River.”
The situation follows a series of recent disruptions at the site. The Zaporizhzhia Thermal Power Plant, which supports electricity transmission to the nuclear facility, came under heavy attack on June 4.
