There is no official word yet on what plans will be made with the funds generated from a Back-a-Buddy fundraiser for police officer Warrant Officer Karl Sander. So far, more than R480,000 has been donated.
Van Reenen explained that Warrant Officer Sander remains a serving member of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and is subject to the relevant SAPS policies and regulations on donations and gifts.
"Given the continued increase in donations, it would be premature to make any definitive decisions regarding the utilisation of the funds at this stage. Once the campaign has concluded and Warrant Officer Sander has had an opportunity to take stock of the support he has received, we will sit down over a well-deserved cup of coffee and discuss how he would like the funds to be utilised," he said.
He said any decisions made will be done in accordance with those requirements.
"I have no doubt that he will ensure everything is handled correctly, transparently, and with the same integrity that has characterised his career," he said.
