R480,000 raised for Karl Sander’s coffee machine — but what happens next?

Speaking to IOL, the man behind the campaign, Kyle van Reenen, said given the continued increase in donations, it would be premature to make any definitive decisions regarding the utilisation of the funds at this stage.

There is no official word yet on what plans will be made with the funds generated from a Back-a-Buddy fundraiser for police officer Warrant Officer Karl Sander. So far, more than R480,000 has been donated.

Earlier this week, IOL broke the news that a page had been created to raise funds to buy a new coffee machine for Sander, a senior investigator at the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), or the Hawks, in KwaZulu-Natal.

During his testimony at the Madlanga Commission this week, Sander revealed that his coffee machine had been stolen from his office. He had been testifying in relation to the theft of more than 500 kilograms of cocaine bricks worth R200 million from the Port Shepstone Hawks office in November 2021.
